Special Ingredients

2 teaspoons sodium lactate, 2 teaspoons titanium dioxide pigment, 1 oz. rose hips, .5 oz. chamomile, 16 oz. Himalayan sea salt, and 1 oz lavender Nature's Truth brand essential oil.


This recipe was adapted from the recipe at wellnessmama.com. The amount of lavender was double and almond oil was used to replace a bit of the mango seed butter. The salt added accounted for 50% of the oils. Some white titanium dioxide pigment was added and a strong tea of rose hips and chamomile (brewed with 1 oz. rose hips and .5 oz. chamomile) was made in place of distilled water. I added the sodium lactate to the cooled lye water.

Batch Notes

I added the salt after reaching a medium trace, but in the future I might wait until a heavy trace since the salt went straight to the bottom and the batch was not thick enough to hold it in place. I also used the individual silicone molds but some got more salt than others because it was difficult to distribute the salt when it kept sinking to the bottom. The tea was partially frozen when the lye was added. The 15% superfatting is to counteract the drying of the coconut oil and the high amounts of coconut oil counteract the reduced lather caused by the salt addition.
